Today we looked at some prepared slides with the video microscope so you could get some practice drawing what you see. Tomorrow is your microscope quiz! You need an 80% or higher to continue on with the class!
8th grade-

EQ: How does salt affect the freezing point of water?
Today we reviewed the results and graph of our lab on Friday and then went on to Part 2- Cubes to Clouds. You do not have to finish those questions until after we have discussed it in class ! Coming soon: Ice Cream lab this week! The Chapter 3 Test will be on Friday.
Homeroom! Please bring in canned foods next week! Also be thinking of ideas for our door decoration!

Today Ms. Hina went over the parts and use of the compound light microscope with you. Complete the questions on the back by Monday. You will have a quiz over this material on Tuesday. You must pass the quiz with an 80%+ to be able to use the microscopes in class.

Today we watched water boil---so much fun!! Seriously, we are investigating the temperature changes during a change of state. By Monday, complete your graph and answer the lab questions. read each question carefully - they are very specific! Wiedman's Advisement: next week we will have a tie breaker for "Wiedman's Winners" - with a sport mascot or "Wiedman's Wilderness" - with a tiger as our mascot. Our colors are red and blue!

Our time today was very limited and we only were able to accomplish our Cells Unit pretest. Tomorrow you should have your notes on the scientists and their discoveries ready for discussion. We will also get back to our presentations!

Today we discussed the states of matter and how matter can change states. Think of it all in terms of the motion of the molecules and the transfer of thermal energy. Today we took quite a bit of time to review the results of the Ecology Unit test - those grades are now posted. We also began our unit on Cell Structures by first looking at some important discoveries that have led to the current cell theory. By Thursday, you should have read p. 60-61 and completed the note organizer- remember that some of the info will have to be researched outside of the textbook.
8th grade:

EQ: How do we "define" the 3 states of matter?
Today we returned to our discussion of the states of matter by focusing on the behavior of gases and the 2 laws that describe how volume of a gas is related to temperature and pressure. Complete the illustration of Charles' Law and Boyles Law for homework by Wednesday.

7th grade-Today was the benchmark post-test for our Ecology Unit- I'll have the results for you on Monday. We saw some great presentations today, and will get back to those on Monday.
8th grade- today I returned the Atoms/Periodic table post-test- great job! Class average was a 92!! You took the Element Symbol test and that will be posted very soon! On Monday, we will return to our discussion on the States of Matter chapter.
7th grade- most of you finished up your photostory projects today and they are looking good! I have been told that you can download the program free- just in case you might want to touch it up at home. Tomorrow will be our Ecology Unit test- you received a study guide (17 questions) that is due tomorrow also. The study guide will prepare you for the test!! Ms. Hina will be here at 8:20 in the morning if you want to come in early to work on your project.
8th grade-

Today was the Atoms and Periodic Unit test- I sure hope everyone did well on it! We began discussing the chapter 3 notes on the states of matter. If you have not finished taking your notes on section 2, please do that tonight! The Element Symbol test is tomorrow!

It's the project that never ends!!! Due to server issues this morning, we are extending our day in the media center once more. For real---tomorrow is the last day to work on it! Your movies should be done by now, but tomorrow will be a day to polish it up and make sure the music is good and the pics aren't blurry. EQ- What have learned about the periodic table?
Today we reviewed for the Benchmark Posttest tomorrow (Chapter 11-12). You need to go back to those two chapters and skim the material to make sure you know it! Some students did not do as well as they would have liked on the previous test- so this is important for your grade average. Finally, the Element Symbol test is Friday!
7th grade - today was another day in the media center to work on our Photostory projects. We werer given the go ahead to be back in the media center tomorrow- it is the LAST day for sure. Anything you can do at home and save on a flash, will help you get it done tomorrow.
Ecology Unit test is scheduled for Friday.
8th grade - today we enjoyed a game day since so many students were missing due to the TOTY pep rally. If you did not hand in your Chemistry in a Bag lab, you must give it to me tomorrow. The Benchmark Post-test on Atoms and the Periodic table will be Thursday. Element symbol test will be on Friday.

Today we continued in the media center working on our projects. We are one by one working out the bugs in this project. If you are having trouble saving pictures to the folder you set up on the student drive, try saving to a flash drive or your student number instead. Just make sure that you do your final save for your project on the same place! We will present these to your classmates on Wednesday! The Ecology Unit test has been rescheduled for Friday.
8th grade -

EQ- What is the evidence of a chemical reaction?
Today we checked our quizzes on physical/chemical changes so you would have a good idea of how well you did on them. We then revisisted our lab from last week and discussed how to read chemical formulas. The 7 lab questions are due tomorrow- on separate notebook paper using complete sentences!
The Element Symbol Test will be this Friday!
