CRCT ends...more to learn!

Hello to all my Students and Parents:

Even though testing is over, the learning continues. This time of year allows us to go back and pick-up the material that we love to teach. It also gives you the opportunity to learn things that interest you!

Social Studies

Monday - CRCT for Social Studies

Tuesday - We return to Japan for Geographic information and a Text Scavenger Hunt!

Wednesday - Japan History from the Text. A glossary of terms sheet After Reading. Japan Map is due!

Thursday - Samurai in Japan. Power Point and Notes. Bonus: The Story of William Adams.

Friday - World War II's end...Truman's decision and "Fire in the Sky" (a survivor's account)

Literacy

Monday Thru Wednesday -  "Something Wicked This Way Comes" a Ray Bradbury book made movie by Disney. Notes, Discussions, and Spiders...Oh My!

Thursday -  "There will come Soft Rains" - an excerpt from Bradbury's Martian Chronicles. A story of the only "survivor" of nuclear war - an automated house.

Friday - Comedy...it ain't pretty, but it sure is Funny! Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood, and Peter Falk drive cars from New York to Paris in "The Great Race."

CRCT Week! Time to Review

Hello to all my Students and Parents:

Since we will be testing from Tuesday on and class length will be shortened...

We hope you can join us for Awtrey’s Family Night this Friday, April 24, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Enjoy a silent auction, craft fair, Awtrey student dance, family movie and food with other members of our school community!

Social Studies

Monday - Advisement Day.  Japan's Constitution, Government, and urban living.

Tuesday Thru Friday- The Social Studies Review "Quilt"...students will work to find and fill 96 squares with facts we have covered over the last school-year.  We will discuss and share the information...We will look over maps and discuss the impact of government and economics. 

Literacy 

Monday thru Friday - Day of Infamy - We will be viewing Asia Films that cover the content we have been discussing in Social Studies. Tora! Tora! Tora! (Pearl Harbor)

Remember to:

Get a good night's Sleep!

Eat a good Breakfast and a nutritious Lunch each day!

Bring Two Number 2 Pencils with good erasers!

Make sure to have something to read, so you can atay quiet when you finish.

Twas the week before testing...

A solid week of information and then review during testing week.

Monday - Asian Government...we will be working in groups to cover governments of China, Indonesia, Japan, North & South Korea.

Tuesday - China in the 20th & 21st Century. Tianemen Square and gradual change to accept Capitalist economy and Communist rule together.

Wednesday - Eastern Religions...Confucism, Taoism, Shinto.

Thursday - Korea and Vietnam

Friday - Japan, the War, and the Bomb

Literacy

Monday - Finish Radio Dramas

Tuesday thru Friday - Asian films

Thursday - Ready! Stand by! The Awtrey Broadcasting Company presents...3 to5 minute radio dramas by my literacy class.

Friday - 2nd day Radio Dramas - fun to done.

South Asia Continued

Hello to all my Students and Parents:

Social Studies

Monday - We will be recapping and summarizing information on Gandhi. You will need your group notes, movie notes and be writing an exercise on page 630 from the text.

Tuesday - The Government s of India and its Neighbors  -  Chapt 21, Sec 2 - Text pages 615 - 619 and a Graphic Organizer.

Wednesday -  South Asia Economics - Chapt 21, Section 3 with Guided notes . We will begin a Graphic Organizer comparing countries, systems, Gov't, What is Produced, Who it is Producted for and a Picture/Symbol you use to remember each.

Thursday -  Finish Econmics Graphic Organizer. Reading and Discussion information - India's Film Industry  - Bollywood.

Friday - Culture of India - Text , Reading on the Taj Mahal, and Virtual Tour of the Monument.

Literacy

Monday thru Wednesday -  South Asia on Film - Lost Horizon: Based on the book by James Hilton and first filmed in 1937 - this color adaptation is also a musical! Oscar winner Peter Finch is a UN Peace Negotiator who is kidnaped, taken for a plane ride into the Himalayas on a vintage DC-3 along with his brother and three others. They crash and are taken by local monks to a Lamasary in a Valley bordered by mountains. The Legendary Shangri La where time seems to alsmost stand still!

Thursday & Friday- Radio Entertainment - Discussion of the importance of Radio Drama prior to TV. Vintage clips from the Hindenberg Disaster and HG Wells War of The Worlds (Orsan Welles 1938 Broadcast.

Monday - Time for a recap! Let's talk South Asia...be prepared to work with partner Download CHAPTER 21 PREVIEW INDIA AND ITS NEIGHBORS

Tuesday - Examining India and the Modern Caste System

Wednesday - Role Play Exercise - Be a part of the Caste System of India

Thursday - Mohandas Gandhi...the man and the culture

Friday - Ghandhi, Independence and Democracy

Literacy 

Monday & Tuesday - World Culture, Media, and Music. What is Culture? How can music cross language barriers? What do visuals tell us?

Wednesday - A History of Electronic Media. First Homework Assignment - What was the first Movie you ever saw? Minimum 5 sentence paragraph. Name, plot, characters, etc...

Thursday - Early Film - from silent to sound. Clips of  "The General" with Buster Keaton and That's Entertainment.

Friday - 1939  - the year Color comes into it's own! We're off to see the Wizard! We will be watching the Making of the Wonderful Wizard of OZ.

All missing assignments must be sybmitted by Tuesday, the 10th in order to be included in the  3rd Qtr report card. Some of you need them to avoid failure. Please do something about it!!!

Sunday...but no Snowday (8th wk, Qtr 3)

Despite Mother nature's best efforts, we will be seeing each other tomorrow. Monday is the deadline for the South Asia brochure or Poster Project we have been working on. If you have missing work to get to me...sooner is better. Grades for the Quarter are due in the next week.

End of Qtr Coming - Complete Missinbg Assignments!

Hello to all my Students and Parents:

We are excelerating into South Asia - India and the surrounding countries.  Get some practice on the CRCT web site with that GTID code given by your homeroom teacher - go to www.georgiaoas.org, enter your code and password of "education" to get the inside track on CRCT!

Social Studies

Monday - We will be recapping the chapter 19 test and discussing notes taken on Thursdau and Friday last week - the Geography of South Asia. I will introduce the last project for the Quarter - a brochure on a S. Asia country. Download South Asia Country Project

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday- We will have computers in class to begin the research for the brochure...This is an individual project...though groups will research the same countries. There will also be a selection of books and print media .

Friday - Film on India
