Hello to All my Students and Parents:
Attention Parents: I sent home a new Syllabus this past week with all my students. It outlined changes in my grading for fourth quarter and it also stated that no late assignments will be accepted. The only exception will be from absence or other pre-arranged circumstances. This is in final preparation for 8th grade. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail or through the school.
Literacy
Monday - We finish the 1982 movie "Annie" and take note of the 1930's Radio City Music Hall spectacular and Bert Healy radio show that are part of this film. This is in preparation for students to work in pairs on their own Radio Drama.
Tuesday - Radio Drama Project begins - will will view film of Jack Benny's 1942 Radio Program, and a "behind the scenes" film that shows radio drama sound effects. We will also listen to Mercury Theatre's War of the World's, the 1938 radio broadcast that paniced the U.S. on Halloween.
Wednesday & Thursday - Radio Drama Project...a 3 to 5 minute dialog between two or more students with sound effects like it would be heard on the radio in the 1930's-40's. Students will be given time to work in class on their script and sound effects.
Friday - Radio Drama Presentations begin.
Social Studies
Monday & Tuesday - Religion in South Asia: Hinduism and Buddhism and how they have influenced and continue to influence their societies. The Anticipation Guide is a pretest for students and the guided notes summarize the class - information is found in the Text. Downloads are available above.
Wednesday - We continue our exploration of Religions in South and Eastern Asia. We will analyze religious belief systems such as Zen Buddhism, Toaism, Confucianism, Buddhism in China and Shinto in Japan.
My class will benefit this week from several lessons on Culture in South Asia that I am writing in collaboration with Cobb County experts. I will be adding to the blog as the week continues.
I will be uplaoding more files as soon as they are available for students at home due to illness or other circumstances.
