8th grade Reading

Week of March 23-27, 2009

This week students will practice skills from CRCT practice test. Today in class students reviewed THEME- the writer's message, or main idea of the work.  Remember the author's theme always relate to the subject.  (what's the BIG IDEA).

AUTHOR'S PURPOSE- is his or her reasons for creating a work.  The four basic reasons an author might choose to write are:

1. to explain or inform

2. to entertain

3. to persuade

4. to enlighten or reveal an important truth

7th grade Language Arts

Monday- March 23, 2009

Today students worked on Visible and Mental Action Verbs. Assignments were from WAG workbook pages 13-14.

Tuesday - March 24   

Attached is the Powerpoint on Verbs from last week's Co-taught LA class:

Wednesday- March 25

Students will work on Figurative Language. They will read a short story and compose into a short poem to show Comprehension and Inferencing skills.

Friday- Quiz on Verbs. Students will complete LA CRCT Practice Test.

READING 8TH GRADE

MARCH 2-6, 2009

Students  completed unit in rBook on Inferencing. Students will complete end of unit activities on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rotations - rbook small group, Reading Counts, and Read 180 Computer assignments are completed daily unless whole group instruction or other tests are administered.

Friday- Review CRCT practice test.

**Tuesday is early release and dismissal is at 2:15.

 

LANGUAGE ARTS 7TH GRADE

MARCH 2-6, 2009

On Friday, Feb. 27th, students received a RESEARCH PROJECT REQUIREMENT sheet outlining the requirements for the FINAL RESEARCH PROJECT due Wed., March 11th
FINAL PROJECT:
  Tri-board containing ALL of the items that we have been completing as part of the RESEARCH process (source cards, note cards, outline, research paper, bibliography, and graphics). Students were shown an example of a tri-board and will be given classtime to complete/type the contents for their tri-board. 
On March 2,3,4,5, 6, 9, 10 students will use classroom computers and be able to type documents for their FINAL PROJECT, collect pictures, compile timelines, type titles/captions, etc. 
By March 5th, ALL components will be covered IN CLASS. 
Students WILL NEED a jumpdrive/USB drive to save work that needs to be completed AT HOME.  Items for the FINAL do NOT have to be typed.

READING 8TH GRADE

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 23-27, 2009

Monday- Group I and Group II will alternate from Whole group rBook story "Bad Boy" by Walter Dean Myers.

Tuesday- Rotation of Group I & II---Computer Read 180 and Reading Counts (writing brief summary)

Wednesday- Whole Group- discuss Inferencing from rBook short story.

Students are working on Research Process this week.

Monday & Tuesday- Sorting Notecards in categories

Wednesday & Thursday - Writing Thesis and Outlilne on Famous Person

Reading 8th grade

February 6-13, 2009

Students are doing Cornell Notes on Inference skills and completing an Inference Package.

Read 180- students will work on computer to finish reading, word, and spelling zones. We will be working on the unit of Inferencing in the rBook.

Reading Counts- Students are encouraged to read books and take a Reading Counts quiz by 2/13.

WEEK OF FEBRUARY 6-13, 2009

Students are working on Note Cards for Research Project.   A total of 10-12 note cards will be due on Friday, February 13.  The students are doing an excellent job on writing note cards and finding information on their Famous Person.

Friday- 2/13: Post test for Skills Tutor on Punctuation.

Reading 8th grade

Week of February 2-6, 2009

Students will continue in Whole group discussion for Read 180

Students are required to read novels from the Reading Counts Library on their level books. Once the student completes the book, he/she should take the 10 question Computer Generated Test. A grade of 70 or higher must be made on all test.

Computer Assignments- Students will be required to complete all zones in reading area. Students will have conferences on their progress this week. 

Language Arts 7th grade

Week - February 2-6, 2009

Students completed Reading Skill lessons on today.

Students will began working on the Research Process this week. This assignment will continue for the next 5 weeks. Students are responsible for keeping up with assignments and will be graded on all materials until assignment is turned in. The 3rd Period class will be assigned FAMOUS PEOPLE. Each student will be given information on RESEARCH project expectations and material needed.
