Mrs. Dean - Period 2
This week we are beginning our research unit. We will be working on this unit until the end of the quarter. Your students will need a package of index cards and a tri-fold board for their project. The tri-fold boards will be sold in the school store for a little less than the regular store.
Also, please remember that at the end of the quarter, each student needs to have 18 book points on the chart. This is test grade. Don't let the end of the quarter sneak up on you. Read, Read, Read!!!

After writing the parts of speech for each word in the DOL sentence, we will continue learning about the research process. Realizing the difference in research reports and narrative writing is the first step. Today in class, the students will read a short narrative piece and a research report. They will then create a chart of the likenesses and the differences.
Assignment: complete any of the work began in class for homework if it is not completed in class.
Wednesday - 2/6
Today the students will write the parts of the sentence for our DOL sentence. I would like for them to know what information there is in our Writing and Grammar book on the research process so that they will be aware that they can use it as a resource. I will ask each student to take Cornell Notes over pages 223-228 and 230- 240 in the Writing and Grammar book. They will begin the notes in class and finish them for homework. This is a short class today due to early release, so most students will need to finish for homework.
Assignment: Complete Cornell Notes that were started in class.
