CONCEPTS OF CULTURE as told in different versions of Cinderella

Students are in groups to read and discuss the Cinderella story told in different cultures.

1.  Students will read at least 4 different versions of Cinderella

2.  Students will create a Venn Diagram that shows similiarities and differences between 2 stories

3 Write explanation about what these similiarities and differences mean

4. Write your own Cinderella story which uses common elements of the stories you have read

5. Week 5/12-15------Write and perform dialogue/conversation between two or more characters or Cinderellas in which they discuss their roles and how they are treated by others in the story or similiarities of other characters. Write your own short play/skit within group using elements of the Cinderella stories you have read.

Week 5/19-21--------Students will perform Cinderella play for class. Assessed by classmates and teacher. Guidelines and grading rubric will be used. Students will have check list to use for guide.

ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE COMPLETED DURING CLASS. YOUR ASSIGMENTS WILL BE ASSESSED FOR DAILY GRADES (CLASSWORK) AND FINAL EXAM WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: VENN DIAGRAM, DIALOGUE (WRITTEN AND ORAL) BETWEEN CHARACTERS, AND WRITTEN/ AND ORAL PRESENTATIONS OF PLAY.

READ 180/ 4-14 -- 4-18

Students are preparing for the CRCT tests. We have been practicing and discussing Reading CRCT tests this week.

The following tests will be administered next week:

April 23 (Wednesday) - Reading

April 24 (Thursday)    - Language Arts

April 25 (Friday)         - Math

*Students should be present each day the test is given, get a good night's sleep, and eat a nutritional breakfast.

Week of March 31- April 4

Class will continue on same agenda as week  3/24-3/28, CRCT Practice test will be administered (useing scantrons) to review Standards covered during this school year.  All test questions will be discussed after your corrected test have been graded.

12 Powerful Words- Trace. Analyze, Infer, Evaluate, Formulate, Describe, Support, Explain, Summarize, Compare, Contrast, Predict--Students are to be familiar with vocabulary.

Rotations: Read 180, Reading Counts ( and quizzes), rBook on Tuesday and Thursday.

Students will take SRI Reading Post test- following the students will have additional time to take Reading Count quizzes or Sustained Silent Reading.

March 18-19

Week of March 17-21/2007

The following assignments are  for Language Arts for the week of March 17-21.

Monday - 3/17

We will begin the class with DOL #4.1. The students will correct the mistakes in the sentence. The students will then take the 3rd quarter posttest and when they finish the test, they will be doing workbook pages 33 and 34.

Assignment: complete workbook pages 33 and 34 if not completed in class.

Tuesday - 3/18

The class will begin with the DOL and the students will wirte the parts of speech for the sentence. The students will then take the 4th quarter prettest. When they complete the test, the students will be dong workbook pages 35-36.

Assignment: complete workbook pages 35 and 36 if not completed in class.

Wednesday - 3/19

The students will write the parts of the sentence for the DOL sentence. After which we will check the workbook pages that they completed for homework. The each student will read the story, "The Night the Bed Fell" in the Literature book. As they read, the students will fill out a chart for the first 10 adverbs that they find in the story...

Thursday - 3/20

The students will begin class by writing the phrases and clauses for the DOL sentence and they will turn in the DOL. The students will then begin the Writing Assessment for the 4th quarter.  They will read the prompt and complete the planning stage. After that, they will write the rough draft of the assessment.

Friday - 3/21

Today, the students will complete the Writing Assessment for the 4th quarter. I will return their rough drafts to them and they will edit their draft and write the final copy. If they complete this before the end of the class period, the students will read silently for the 25 book requirement.

February 11, 2008

Language Arts 7th grade

The following assignments are for Language Arts for the week of February 11-15.

Monday and Tuesday - 2/11-12

We will begin both of these classes with a new DOL sentence and go over the process orally. I will give each student a requirement sheet for the research project. Please ask your child to see the requirements for the project. Each child will need a package of index cards and a tri-fold board. The boards are being sold in the School Store. We will spend these two days in the Media Center researching books, magazines, and reference materials, taking notes and creating source cards for our topics.

Wednesday and Thursday - 2/13-14

After doing the DOL entry each day, we will go to the computer lab and spend our class time research on the internet, creating source cards and note cards for our topics. Each student is required to have at least 2 internet sources for their project.

Friday - 2/15

Today we will continue our note taking in the classroom. I will have a cart from the library with books and encyclopedias on it. After these 5 days of research, the students will need 50 note cards and 5 source cards. They, of course, can have more, but not fewer. At the end of class, if the student sees that he/she needs more research time, he/she can do it over the weekend. The note cards and source cards are due on Monday, 2/18.

7th grade Language Arts - February 4-8

Mrs. Dean - Period 2

This week we are beginning our research unit. We will be working on this unit until the end of the quarter. Your students will need a package of index cards and a tri-fold board for their project. The tri-fold boards will be sold in the school store for a little less than the regular store.

Also, please remember that at the end of the quarter, each student needs to have 18 book points on the chart. This is test grade. Don't let the end of the quarter sneak up on you. Read, Read, Read!!!

The following assignments are for Language Arts for the week of February 4-8.

Monday - 2/4

Today we will begin class with a new DOL sentence and correct the mistakes in the sentence. We will do this orally as a class. We are begin our unit on The Research Process today. I will introduce our unit on Research with the Essensial Question and the Vocabulary for the unit. The students will take notes and their will be a vocabulary quiz later in the week.

Tuesday - 2/5

After writing the parts of speech for each word in the DOL sentence, we will continue learning about the research process. Realizing the difference in research reports and narrative writing is the first step. Today in class, the students will read a short narrative piece and a research report. They will then create a chart of the likenesses and the differences.

Assignment: complete any of the work began in class for homework if it is not completed in class.

Wednesday - 2/6

Today the students will write the parts of the sentence for our DOL sentence. I would like for them to know what information there is in our Writing and Grammar book on the research process so that they will be aware that they can use it as a resource. I will ask each student to take Cornell Notes over pages 223-228 and 230-   240 in the Writing and Grammar book. They will begin the notes in class and finish them for homework. This is a short class today due to early release, so most students will need to finish for homework.

Assignment: Complete Cornell Notes that were started in class.

Thursday - 2/7

We will begin class today by writing the phrases and clauses that are in our DOL sentence and turning in the DOL. The lesson today will be on writing Source Cards. I will give notes on the procedure and we will practice as a class in preparation for doing the actural reserach next week.

Friday - 2/8

Today the students will learn how to write Note Cards from sources. I will give notes, then the students will read an article and practice taking notes from the article. The students will choose the topic for their own research during this class period

Mrs. Baker and her students reviewed the Discovery Magazine to learn more about Rwandan animals, Kenyan culture, and Democratic governments.

Students have been working on presenting CAPITALIZATION lessons in class.

The Capitalization Notes that were handed out last week (see attached), were filled out as students presented lessons.  Students are responsible for completing the notes and including definitions and examples. Download capitalization_notes.doc
