Last week of school

Summer Welcome to the last week of school!!!  This Friday is the last day of seventh grade - you all have done such a wonderful job this school year!!

Although this is the last week of school, there are still several grades your teachers are taking.  Please stay focused this week and concentrate on your final exams and assignments.

Math 7:

Our final exam is this TUESDAY!!! Please make sure you review your study guide that we worked on last week in class.  We will review and discuss this on Monday and Tuesday will be your final exam.

You will all do great - just remember to review your study guide!!

Math Literacy:
This week we will wrap up Math Literacy.  We will finish up our shopping unit on Monday. We will also wrap up our stock market unit and create a graph of how each of our stocks did over the course of the 9 weeks.

Math 7:

This we will focus on reviewing and mastering one and two step equations.  We will review one-step equations on Monday, two-step equations on Tuesday and we will have a QUIZ on Wednesday over equations.  On Thursday we will begin working on our study guide for our final exam.  The final exam will be on Tuesday, May 20th, check back later in the week to download the study guide.

I hope you all had a great weekend!  Once again, great job on CRCT!!!  You all did fantastic and I am very proud of you!  Great job to my homeroom on attendance – we had perfect attendance each day!!

Several important announcements:
Field Day is on May 9th!!!  It was be a full day of fun activities!

BOOK CHECK – THERE IS A BOOK CHECK ON TUESDAY MAY 6!!!  YOU MUST HAVE YOUR MATH BOOKS ON THIS DAY IN CLASS.  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MATH BOOK, I WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH A LETTER STATING THAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR A NEW TEXTBOOK.  THE PRICE OF THE TEXTBOOK IS $54.95.  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TEXTBOOK ON TUESDAY AND DO NOT GET THE LETTER SIGNED BY A PARENT, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN FIELD DAY!!!

All Progress Reports should have been given to your homeroom teachers.  Please make sure they receive these by Monday if you have not yet turned them in.

Math 7:

This week we are going to take some time to go back and review integers.  We have worked on this quite a bit this school year, however we want to make sure every student masters how to add/sub/mult/divide integers before you move on to the eighth grade.  We will then move into reviewing one and two step equations.  You all have done a great job throughout the year, please continue to work hard on these concepts.

Great Job so far on the CRCT!!!!  Thank you all for getting to school on time and preparing for the CRCT. Keep it up – we still have Monday and Tuesday to test.  Monday will be the Science test and Tuesday is Social Studies.  Please continue to get plenty of rest and take care of yourself.

PROGRESS REPORTS WILL BE GOING ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30TH.  Please make sure that you return your SIGNED progress report to your homeroom teacher by Friday, May 2nd.

Math 7:

This week we will work on our Tesselation Activity.  We pushed it back a couple days so that we could continue to review for the Math CRCT.  You will begin this activity on Monday and it will be due on Thursday.  This is an IN-CLASS assignment and should not have to be brought home.  On Friday we will complete our 4th (and Final) writing assessment.

Please try to get to Awtrey each day on time and go immediately to homeroom (after you go to breakfast).  We will test each day from 9:30 - 12:00 pm.  In the afternoon you will go to all classes - they will just be shortened.  You will be eating lunch with your first period class each day.

Math 7:

We will continue to review on Monday and Tuesday of this week.  On Monday we will go over the One and Two -Step Equation Practice test that we took on Friday.  On Tuesday we will take a Convergence Mastery Quiz over Integers.  This will help you master your integer skills with problems that we have been working on all school year.  Starting on Wednesday, we will begin a fun-in class Tesselations activity.  You will have an opportunity to "Create your own picture" using tesselations.

April 14th - 18th

J0434736 Welcome Back!! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing spring break.  Spring break is an excellent time to get get re-charged for the rest of the school year and CRCT!!!

The CRCT is right around the corner!!!  It begins on Wednesday, April 23rd and goes until Tuesday, April 30th.  The Math portion of the test is on Friday, April 25th - please make sure you are reviewing each day so that you are prepared for the test!!  Start getting plenty of rest and fuel yourself with good nutrition and water so that you are ready to go on the first day of the CRCT!

Math 7:

This week we are reviewing each day for the CRCT.  We will be reviewing: Data Analysis, Order of Operations, Rational Numbers, Transformations, absolute value and Equations.  Each day we will work with some CRCT Practice Tests and review the questions you have trouble on.  There will be homework each night to help you review some additional concepts.  PLEASE come to see me if you have any questions or are in need of some additional practice problems.

is offering Math CRCT Practice Test Day!!!!  This is a special day to get prepared for the math portion of the CRCT.  You will be able to take a practice test, get your results and see what you need to practice and study between now and the CRCT.  We will also be reviewing test taking strategies so that you will be prepared the day of the test!!  Saturday school is from 9:00am – 12:00pm, please see your math teacher if you did not get a permission slip.  All students who plan on attending must have a permission slip signed by a parent.  Permission slips are due back by Wed., March 26th!!

Starting on Tuesday we will begin discussing Cross Sections of prisms, cones, cylinders and pyramids.  We will begin with notes on Cross Sections and then we will complete a Performance Task to see how many cross sections each solid has.  Thursday we will work on our study guide (TEST over Unit 7 will be on Tuesday April 1st).  We will complete an additional performance task on Friday where we will explore cross sections using cubed cheese and marshmallows – cubes & cylinders!!!

Math Literacy: This week we will explore the Stock Market!!!  We will begin with an article study on Monday and then we will begin looking at stock tables on the computer and newspaper. You will have the opportunity to pick a stock this week that we will watch throughout the course of the 9-weeks.  You will keep a log of how your stock is doing in your composition notebook.  We will be visiting the library on Wednesday, where you will use Trackstar to check your stock (we will only be using safe sites that I have outlined for you on Trackstar).

Don’t forget – Friday is Silent Reading Day!!

REPORT CARDS WILL GO HOME THIS THURSDAY!!!

Welcome to the 4th grading period!!!  I can’t believe it is already here.  Let’s kick it off with an excellent start!  CRCT is quickly approaching, please make sure you are reviewing at home and doing some online CRCT practice.  Everyone should have received a CRCT login number in homeroom last week that will allow you to log on and take practice tests.  Simply visit the Awtrey homepage and one of the links on the left hand side will say CRCT practice online.  Please let me know if you have any questions!!

Math 7:

This week we will begin unit 7 “Slices and Shadows.”  This is a very fun and hands on unit that will require some critical thinking skills.  We will first take a look at 3-D Transformations; this is when we will take a flat two dimensional figure and rotate/translate it through space to see what it would form.  After we look at 3-D transformations, we will explore Cross Sections of three dimensional solids.  This week we will begin with a benchmark test over the 3rd nine weeks and unit 7 vocabulary.  This will be a classwork grade based on participation and effort.  We will then complete “Translations and rotations in sand” where we will look at the different shapes and what we can form when we rotate and translate them through wet sand.  We will wrap up the end of the week with an additional
performance task that will reinforce 3-D transformations.  THERE WILL BE A QUIZ ON MONDAY, MARCH 24 OVER VOCABULARY AND 3-D TRANSFORMATIONS!!
