 11/9/09 7th Grade Social Studies-Montgomery

Classwork:We went over how to find countries government using the textbook in class today. We covered page 12 only of the, The Legitimacy of Democratic Government. We also spent some time on some word decoding tricks that is used to recognize words that you know in your listening and speaking vocabulary. We will use these tricks to decode words in our reading.

Homework: read pages 13 and 14 of the Legitimacy of Democratic Government.

Essential Question: How does the population change the geography of the land around us?

Learning Objective: Describe and locate physical features of Africa.  Students will recognize the environmental issues surrounding these locations and how population growth effects the land.

Classwork:Power Point on the Africa in class today. You were given a graphic organizer to complete by tomorrow using pages 496-501 in you textbook. Also you to label the climate regions of Africa on the map given to you.

Homework: Finish your graphic organizer for 496-501 and the map on the climate regions. This is due tomorrow. You were also given vocabulary terms to work on, please try to complete as soon as possible.

9/09/09 7th Grade Social Studies-Smith/Montgomery

Monday, November 9 - Answer the following question on a sheet of notebook paper in five sentences or more: "Why Should We Study the Continent of Africa?"

Wednesday, November 11 - Read and answer questions to handout "Women Bear the Weight of Water"

Thursday, November 12 - Current Event due tomorrow!  Be sure to find a current event on Africa, write complete sentences, and follow the current event format!

6th Grade Social Studies- Ross/Montgomery

Essential Question: Explain how the collapse of the Soviet Union led to the end of the Cold War and German reunification.

Learning Goal: The student will describe major developments in Europe during the 20th century.

Classwork:We took the pre-test for Political and Economic Systems of Europe and Canada. Once you completed the test, you were to read pages 394-397 .

Homework: Copy the chart on page 397 in your textbook and complete it,  You listing characteristic of Germany as a divided country than as a reunified country.

Classwork: We checked notecards on vocabulary. Then we finally be gan our powerpoint on Government. Students were to copy the notes that were in red on dictatorship. Download Government-notes-2009 We will be working on completing the graphic organizer tomorrow also.

Classwork- We took a pre-test on the types of government. There were 11 terms. You are to create vocabulary cards for each of the terms. You will have a post test in two weeks time so learn these words by heart. Our goal today was to take the pretest and introduce the government systems.

Homework: Finish the vocabulary cards.

11/2/09 7th Grade Social Studies-Lipscomb/Montgomery

Essential Question:  How does the organizaion of Middle East governments affect life in the Middle East and the rest of the world?

Learning Goal:  Students will be able to distinguish and compare the governments of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.

Classwork:Today we completed the government matrix on the countries of Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.  The matrix helps us dissect the governments of these three countries. If you were not able to get all the answers for the completed matrix , please go to Miss Lipscomb blog and download. Make sure you have all the answers - There is a quiz on Thursday.

Remember - NO SCHOOL ON TUESDAY!!!

Homework; Study for the test on the Government Matrix which will be Thursday. There will be a notebook check on Thursday also. Be sure to check the whiteboard in front of the class for the Table of Contents. Also for those of you who had a score below 74 on the Government Test, a retake will be offered Thursday morning at 8:15 or 4:30 in Miss Lipscomb's room

Wednesday 11/4 - we will begin looking at Sub Saharan Africa.  We will look at the geography first and then move on to the history of the region.

Monday, November 2 - Students this week are studying Africa's geographic features and countries.  All students are to go to the Sheppard's Software website www.sheppardsoftware.com  and attempt to identify the countries in Africa for a 90% or higher score.  Print out a copy of your score and have a parent sign your report.  If you do not have a printer, simply have a parent write a note.

Tuesday, November 3 - NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS.  TEACHER WORK DAY!

Wednesday, November 4 - Sheppard's Software report due tomorrow!  All students may try for an additonal five points by attempting to answer and complete at least a 90% score or higher on the African landscapes games.

Thursday, November 5 - "Where does our WATER come from in the U.S.?"  The real question we will tackle is, "How do many Africans get their WATER and how is this different from how we obtain our water in the United States?"

Essential Question: How did global economic conditions affect Europe after WWI?

Learning Goal: Explain conflict and change in Europe to the 21st century.

Classwork:We reviewed the answers to the study guide and then played review games at 4 different stations.

Homework: - Study for your test on Wednesday...  STUDY SESSION Wednesday at 8:20, check in with the cafeteria first. Miss Ross will come and get you.

Essential Question:The student will analyze continuity and change in Southwest Asia (Middle East) leading to the 21st century.

Learning Objective: How was the strategy for the Iraqi War different from the Persian Gulf War.

Classwork: We reviewed the warm-up questions from last week and this week. Need to study these questions for they will be on your Test Friday.We reviewed the vocabulary words for the , The Fall of Baghdad." We then checked our answers to the questions..

Homework: None

Essential Question:Describe the two predominant forms of democratic governments: parliamentary and presidential.

Classwork: We read an article on the two forms of democracy and used a Venn diagram to compare and contract the two different forms of democracy.

Homework: Test of the various forms of government Thursday, and current event due Friday.

Classwork:Today we finished creating our poof book on government.   Your poof book was due at the end of class today.    You were to create a page for each of the six types of government systems that we have discussed for the last several  days in class. Then you were to create an illustration.

Classwork: October 26 - Work on your government Tic-Tac-Toe PROJECT  Download Government_vocabulary_think_tac_toe from Ms. Smith's Blog. Tomorrow we will check to see if at least two out of the three assignments are completed for this project.  Time was given in class to work on the project today and there will be time to work on the project tomorrow.

Classwork: We fished the Last Moves reading selection on the Iraq War and completed the worksheets.

Classwork:Today we  reviewed the government matrix - identifying the different types of government systems that exist in the world. Students then worked on the notes from the matrix.  This should have been completed in class.

Homework: We will start on a prrof -book for the different forms of government. You are to be searching for pictures that would represent the different forms of government.

Classwork: We discussed  and completed our Venn diagram comparing and contrasting Parliamentary and Presidential forms of democracy. We reviewed the types of government by playing a game of " I am."

The Essential Question for the Day: "How do most democratic governments choose their leaders?" 

 Classwork: We learned today is that in a democractic society citizens elect their leaders.  It is the responsibility of the citizen to vote during elections.  Students discussed what having equal opportunities in this country means vs. what it might mean in a Middle Eastern country? You should  understand how governments determine the role of citizen participation in an autocratic, democratic, or oligarchic government.  We will discuss oligarchy and autocracy more tomorrow.  Autocracy, and the role of a monarch or ruler, was our warm up question for the day.

Classwork:We worked on our final products of our time line project :)

10/19/09 7th Grade Social Studies-Montgomery

Classwork- We took a warm-up quiz using notes from Friday. We then began the reading , The Persian Guf War. We completed the Before and During Reading questions but did not complete the after reading questions.

Homework: You are to complete the after reading questions for the persian Gulf War pp 15 and 16. Please use complete sentences with a complete thought.

10/19/09 7th Grade Social Studies-Lipscomb/Montgomery

Classwork: Quiz on today(will count as a test grade) - 1973 oil embargo, OPEC, Iraq/Iran war, Persian Gulf war, oil in the Middle East, and Saddam Hussein.

Classwork: We reviewed the test from Friday then took the pre-test for the nest unit and a pretest on government.

   2.Wednesday, October 21 - Students will have read the attached handout and should make an attempt to write down facts about both parliamentary and presidential government systems and how they are alike and/or different from one another. Download Parliamentarypresidentialdemocracyreg

3. Thursday, October 22 - Students need to decide whether they want to do the Tic-Tac-Toe project for their government project or the cube.  I will have copies of both in the classroom and demonstrate what both of these projects will look like. Students are learning about these government systems and should have knowledge of how to complete each project - CHOOSE ONLY ONE!  Tic-Tac-Toe is attached.

Essential Question: How are the various cultural groups in SW Asia (Middle East) similar and different?

Classwork: We reviewed  Chapter 16,Section 1 pages 138-139 Guided Reading Workbook. Took a Quiz and read an article of the Kurds. 

Homework: Finish the current event worksheet for the Kurds. If you have not completed Vocabulary words for Chapter 16,Sect 1 -make sure you do.

Classwork:Today in class we discussed Iraq-Oil, War and Saddam Hussein. We focused on how Oil and how it has and does affect our lives.  We will also discuss the world's dependence on oil.

Classwork:We discussed the major events in the Russian Revolution. We read Chapter 12 Section 1, and completed a guided reading.
