I have recently found a couple of new websites that allow students (and teachers) to express their ideas in drawings and cartoon strips... The first one is DoInk that allows students to draw not only still images, but also animations! (I know you guys can draw better than me...but here is my attempt!!)
Hello Awtrey! I am so excited to be joining the wonderful staff at Awtrey! My name is Anita Foster and I have been in education now for 15 years! I have been a classroom teacher, a Media Specialist and a Technology Specialist over my career. Most recently I served Cobb County as a Technology Integration Specialist for the past three years.
I am excited to work with a wonderful staff and group of students. We are planning some exciting changes in the Media Center...starting with the installation of a SMARTBoard! This board will be available for not only the Media Center lessons, but teachers can also sign up to use the board with their class. With the installation of the board, we moved around some of the bookshelves and furniture to accommodate our new technology. We have also ordered an additional board available for check-out for the teachers to use for a two week period.
We will also be starting a Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team at Awtrey. Any student who would like to join, may do so. We will compete at a district wide competition January 9, 2010. We the winners will then go on to regional and then state competitions. If you are interested, please see Mrs. Foster. Here is a list of the books for this years competition.
Some other exciting news...we will be having a mini book fair at the beginning of the year. One of the student's favorite series Diary of a Wimpy Kid is coming out with a new book! Look for more information to come.
I look forward to working with you this year!!
I love this commercial, it shows how technology is NOW!

I have not had a chance to blog about this until now, but Google Earth has now gone into the ocean!! And today it was reported that Google Earth may have found the lost city of Atlantis. I don't know if this is the actual lost city, but it does appear to be where Plato said it was and with his details.
