Monday, March 30
We started our study of Australia today. The students labeled a physical and political map in class.
Homework: None
BOOK CHECK WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1ST!!! ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR TEXT BOOKS FOR A BOOK CHECK!!!
Tuesday, March 31
We reviewed the maps and began working on the vocabulary words. The students were given class time to create Key Term Blocks for each vocabulary word (Word, definition, sentence, picture).
Homework: Key Term Blocks due Thursday. Bring Social Studies book to class for a book check tomorrow!
Wednesday, April 1
We watched a video stream about Australia and discussed the G-20 Summit going on in the United Kingdom today.

Thursday, April 2
We checked the Key Term Blocks today in class. Students explored the history and government of Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania. We had a brief discussion of the Commonwealth of Nations. We read pages 733 - 736 in the textbook and started on the Section Assessment on p. 736.
Homework: Section Assessment, p.736, # 2-4.
Monday, March 23
Students took a Benchmark test today and began working on flash cards for the vocabulary words.
Homework: March Current Event due Wednesday, March 25.
Tuesday, March 24
We reviewed the definitions to the vocabulary words. Students then began working on using each word in a sentence as it applies to Latin America.
Homework: March Current Event due tomorrow!!!
Wednesday, March 25
Students were given time in class to finish up their vocabulary sentences. They created a review game to go along with the vocabulary words.
Homework: Continue to review the vocabulary words and be prepared for a quiz on these words Friday.
Thursday, March 26
Students reviewed for the vocabulary quiz and took Benchmark IV pretest in class today.
Homework: Vocabulary quiz tomorrow! STUDY!!!
Monday, March 16
Students read and discussed Ch. 9 section 3. Ms Watson, who is a native Brazilian, spoke to each class about Brazil.
Homework: Complete the bubble map drawn on the board. Brazil is the center bubble and there shoud be 5 branching out bubbles with the following subjects : Regional leaders, Government, Culture, Economy, and People.
Tuesday, March 17
We graded the Brazil bubble maps in class today. Students worked with a partner on the section assessment on page 247.
Homework: Finish the section assessment on p. 247 #1-3.
Wednesday, March 18
We reviewed the section about Brazil. We viewed a power point introducing the Guerrilla movements and then began a reading about the Shining Path, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." Homework: March Current Event due Wednesday, March 25. Thursday, March 19 We discussed Peru's government and the Shining Path. Students filled out a graphic organizer about who or what helped democracy and things that hurt democracy in Peru. Homework: March Current Event due Wednesday, March 25. Friday, March 20 We reviewed the sheet about Eva Peron, "Santa Evita," and watched a videostream about her life. Homework: March Current Event due Wednesday, March 25.

We discussed the economy and culture of the Caribbean and Central America.

Tuesday, March 10
We graded the Section Assessment and watched a videostream about the cultures of the Caribbean and Central America.
Homework: Bring a poster board for an activity we will be working on in class the rest of the week.
Wednesday, March 11- Friday, March 13
Students began a Central America and Caribbean in class group project today.
Homework: Work on your aspect of the project. The project is due Monday.
Students will be allowed to work on their projects in class one more day. Projects due Tuesday! :))
Monday, March 2
Students turned in their Liberator Projects today. Students focused on how through periods of reform and revolution, Mexico struggled to establish a strong democratic national government. They wrote 10 facts about our discussion today. (Textbook: pages 179 - 184)
Homework: Turn those facts you wrote into questions that can be answered with your facts.
Tuesday, March 3
Students read and discussed how the countries of Central America and the Caribbean moved from independence to recent times. Students wrote down 10 facts from Ch. 8 Sec. 1 (pgs. 203 - 207).
Homework: Create questions that the facts can answer.
Wednesday, March 4
Students read and discussed how the countries of South America moved from independence to recent times. Students wrote down 15 facts from Ch. 9 Sec. 1 ( pgs. 231 - 235).

Tuesday, February 24
Today students were each given an article about a Latin American liberator. They read and took notes over the article, then grouped with others and shared the notes they had collected. We will continue this on Wednesday.

Wednesday, February 25
Today we continued our study of the Latin American liberators, Miguel Hidalgo, Toussaint L'Ouverture, and Simon Bolivar. The students completed a graphic organizer about each one.

Thursday, February 26
The students began working on an in-class performance task using the Latin America graphic organizers they completed this week.
Homework: Bring pictures or other supplies needed for your Liberator activity.
Friday, February 27
We will continue working on the in-class assignment over the Latin America Liberators.
Homework: Final products are due Monday. Remember NO PENCIL on final copy!!!
