Week of May 12 - 16

We are researching and working on the Culture Boxes this week in class. Thursday is the last day to work on the box in class. Presentations will begin Friday. Those who are ready to present on Friday will be given 5 bonus points. Projects due Monday, May 19.

IF YOU HAVE A SHOE BOX, please send it in with your child starting on Monday.  We are going to be creating culture boxes.

Thursday, May 8th

We finished the writing assessment. Directions were given to each student concerning the "Culture Box Project." Don't forget to bring a shoebox on Monday for the project.

Week of April 28- May 2

Monday and Tuesday - CRCT testing

Homework: None

Wednesday - We worked on acrostic poems for Australia in class today.

Homework: Get permission slip signed. Australia poem due Monday.

Progress reports went home today. Please get them signed by your parent.

Thursday -  We will have a book check on Monday, May 5. Please bring the Social Studies book that was issued to you at the beginning of the year to school on Monday. If it is not returned you will not be allowed to participate in Field Day.

We are working on an Oceania Webquest today and Friday. Here is the link:

Week of April 14 - 18

Monday - We reviewed the history, government, and maps of Australia and Oceania. Students read and discussed the economy and culture of Australia and Oceania.     Map Game

Homework: Map quiz on Wednesday. April Current Event due Friday, April 18.

Tuesday - Students reviewed the maps of Australia and Oceania. We also reviewed the information in Chapter 25 Sections 1 & 2 by completing both sides of a worksheet

Homework: Finish the worksheet if not done in class and study for the map quiz.  Map Quiz tomorrow!!!  Current Event due Friday.

Wednesday - We graded the "Categorizing" paper, took the Australia/Oceania Map Quiz, and began reading articles(e-mails) about regions of Oceania. Students wrote 10 facts about each region based on the information in the article. We will finish this activity in class tomorrow.

Thursday - Students finished taking notes on the regions of Oceania.

Homework: Notebook Check, Current Event, and quiz on Chapter 25 Sections 1&2 tomorrow.

Friday - Students turned in their DSS, Notebook, Current Event, and took a quiz on Chapter 25 Sections 1 & 2. We finished up by watching a short video on the people of Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania.

Week of March 31 - April 4

Field Trip Tuesday!!! Students should be dropped off at 7:50 and be picked up at 4:45. Lunch is provided.

Monday - Students labeled maps of Australia today.

Tuesday - Field Trip

Wednesday - Students labeled a map of Oceania. We reviewed and highlighted the required political and physical features of the maps of Australia and Oceania. Students began working on the following Key Term Blocks for this section:   Aborigine, Maori, Commonwealth of Nations, patrilineal societies, matrilineal societies.

Homework: Finish the Key Term Blocks.

March 24, 2008

Week of March 24 - 28

Monday - Students turned in their Key Term Blocks, reviewed the government of Canada, and began their study of Canada's economy.

Homework: Finish the Guided Reading on Canada's economy (chapter 5 section 3).

Tuesday - We graded the Fill in the Blank paper on the Economy of Canada. We reviewed the history, government, natural resources, and economy of Canada by taking notes on two video streams.

Homework: None

Wednesday - We finished up our study of Canada by reading Chapter 5 Section 4 and writing 5 facts for each heading about the culture of Canada. The students also began working on the Study Guide.

Homework: Finish the Study Guide for homework if not completed in class. Notebook Check and test on Canada Friday.

Thursday - Students reviewed for the test tomorrow. Some students worked on extra credit for the test and organized their notebook.

Homework: Canada test and notebook check tomorrow. Be prepared to turn in your extra credit with your test tomorrow (Chapter 5 Section Assessments 2, 3, and 4 in complete sentences).

Friday - Students wrote in their 3-2-1 Journals, had a notebook check, took the Canada test, and turned in extra credit for the test.

Week of March 17 - 21

Monday - We took a pretest over Canada and Australia today. We skimmed chapter Chapter 3 Sections 1 & 2 (pgs. 69 -79) looking for the answers to 5 questions about the physical geography of Canada.

Homework: Study the political and physical maps of Canada. Quiz on the maps Wednesday. March Current Event due Friday, March 21.

Tuesday - We completed a powerpoint on the colonization and independence of Canada. Download colonization_and_independence_of_canada.ppt

Wednesday - We reviewed the powerpoint and for the map quiz. We took the Canada Map Quiz. Students worked on a Guided Reading worksheet over Canada's first immigrants.

Thursday - We reviewed the answers to the Guided Reading and worked on Chapter 5 Sections 2,3, and 4 Key Term Blocks.

Friday - Students turned in their March Current Event today.We discussed and read about the government of Canada (Chapter 5 Section 2). Students worked on a Finding Main Ideas worksheet and Key Term Blocks.

Homework: Finish the Finding Main Ideas worksheet and Key Term Blocks if not done in class today.

March 10, 2008

Week of March 10 - 14

Monday - Students began working on an economics project called "What Economics Means to Me."Students were given a handout of the directions and the rough draft was started in class today. We will work on the project in class Tuesday and Wednesday. Projects are due Thursday.

Homework: Bring necessary materials for the project.

Tuesday - We worked in class on the project.

Homework: Project due Thursday, March 13.

Wednesday - Today was the last day to work on the project in class.

Homework: Project is due tomorrow.

Thursday - We turned in our "What Economics Means to Me" projects and began our study of Canada. Students watched a 20 minute overview of Canada and labeled a political and physical map of Canada.
