Monday - 5/12/08 - Japan's Government.  Homework - Venn Diagram comparing US and Japanese governments.

Tuesday - 5/13/08 - Review Venn diagram on governments.  Powerpoint on Shinto religion.  Clozed notes- pages 724-726 is the homework.

Wednesday - 5/14/08 - Review of clozed notes on pages 724-726.   Warm Up Quiz. Study guide for Japan exam handed out.  Notebook Check.

Thursday - 5/15/08 - Review study guide and Practice Test.

Friday - 5/16/08 - Japan Exam and Final current event (may turn in on Monday without losing credit)

Wednesday - 5/21/08 - FINAL EXAM!!!

Monday -- 5/5  Students read an article on the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan.  Any of the questions not completed in class were for homework.

Tuesday - 5/6 Warm Up Quiz.  We will be introduced to the results of the atomic bomb on Japan.  As a class we will discuss the pros and cons.  Students will begin writing a persuasive business letter to President Truman on whether or not to use the same weapon on Nagasaki.

Wednesday 5/7 - We will continue working on our letters.   They will be due at the beginning of class on Thursday.

Thursday - Discussion on Japanese government - comparison to United States.

Friday - No classes all day - FIELD DAY!!! 

NO CURRENT EVENT WILL BE DUE THIS WEEK - STUDENTS MAY COMPLETE ONE TO TURN IN ON THURSDAY FOR EXTRA CREDIT!

CRCT WEEK

There will be no homework this week.

ON Monday and Tuesday we will continue CRCT Practice.

Beginning on Tuesday we will begin our study of Japan.  During class we will begin looking at the physical geography and the basic facts of the country.

Beginning next week we will delve into the history of the country and the tradition of the Samurai culture and how it still affects the modern culture of Japan.

There is no current event due this week!!!

REMEMBER:  ATTENDANCE AND PROMPTNESS IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE DURING CRCT.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING REST AND EATING A GOOD BREAKFAST DURING THIS TIME OF TESTING.....SO THAT YOU CAN BE AT YOUR OPTIMUM AND DO YOUR BEST!!!!

Thursday 3/20 - We reviewed the South Asia government graphic organizer in class.  We discussed an article on India's economy from Time for Kids magazine.  The questions that went along with the article wore collected for a grade.  There is a warm up quiz on Friday and a current event is due.

Friday 3/21- Warm Up Quiz and Current Event due.  During class we will talk about population and population density and its effect on South Asia.  Students will have an article on population to read for homework.

Monday 3/17 - Students finshed writing and editing their essay on the Sepoy Rebellion in India.  They were turned in at the end of class.

Tuesday 3/18 - Students are to complete a graphic organizer on the governments of South Asia.   There will be an open note pop quiz on Wednesday.

Wednesday - 3/19- Open note pop quiz on governments of South Asia using the graphic organizer.  We will begin discussing the economy of India and it's neighboring countries.  Students will read and discuss an article on the topic in class.

Homework : Read and highlight important facts in "Sepoy Rebellion' article

Questions to think about while reading the article:

  1. When and why did the British come to India?
  2. How did they move from a mere economic role of being traders to active political control?
  3. Was the revolt of 1857 the first act of rebellion against the British, or were there prior cases of rebellion? If yes, where?
  4. Where and why did the revolt take place?
  5. What were the immediate repercussions of the revolt of 1857?
  6. Do you think the, the British policies over the century were responsible for the revolt of 1857 or was it a spontaneous uprising of the sepoys against the new cartridge policies?
  7. Why do you think the revolt remained confined to certain regions and did not engulf all of India?

8.   Do you think, it was a lack of feeling of nationalism among the Indian people that helped British

       establish their rule in India?

9. Do you find any similarities in the way the East India Company operated in India, and the

    workings of a modern multi-national corportation?   Justify your answer.
