EQ - How do the fundamentals of playing your instrument effect your tone quality? 

Learning Goals - Students will produce a characteristic tone on their instrument. Students will also be able to count rhythmic passages each day.

Weekly Rehearsal Schedule:

Monday: 8-8:50am - Full Symphony Only

Tuesday - NO AM PRACTICE

Wednesday: 8-8:55am Jazz Band and Open Practice Time

Thursday: 8:15-8:55am Open Practice Time

8th Grade General Music - We are continuing our study of the use of music within CGI films (Toy Story and Finding Nemo). Remember to be listening and analyzing the music for specific examples of how the film score composer use different techniques to create emotion within the audience.

8th Grade Band - We will continue our efforts of sightreading new pieces for the upcoming holiday concert on December 8th! Fundamentals = Long tones, White Book (14-1,15-3, 24-1&2, 18-1, 33-1, 47-3, 55-1, 60-1, 65-1), Major Scales and Arpeggios (C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab); Hovey Rhythms 1-48

***7th Grade band students have "practice slips" that are due weekly on Mondays! Students are expected to practice 120 minutes per week!***

October 12-16, 2009

Jazz Band - An informational meeting was held this past Tuesday evening to provide parents with details pertaining to this year's Spring trip to Disney World. Information packets were given to the jazz band members whose parents were unable to attend.

 

8th Grade Band - Fall Band Concert - October 13, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. in the Awtrey Auditorium. Students should report to the band room at 6:30 for roll call and warm-up. Students should wear Sunday best for this performance.

NCHS 8th Grade Band Night is this Friday, October 16. Permission forms are required for any student planning to attend. North Cobb Band T-shirts will also be available this Friday for $5.00.

Sept. 21 - Oct. 2, 2009

Congratulations to the new members of jazz band!! Rehearsals have started and they will remain on Wed. and Fri. mornings from 8:00am-8:55am! Please be ONTIME! We only get two mornings a week to learn our music!!

8th Grade General Music - We have concluded our study of John Williams' use of orchestration in the Star Wars' movies. Student should be able to describe the use of themes for different characters, as well as the progression of certain characters as it relates to their inner turmoil and conflict. This week, we will begin research for our final composer project. Each student will be assigned a film score composer to give a presentation on dealing with the music/films that his or her composer writes for. Presentation of projects will begin next Tuesday (Oct. 6th).

Jazz Band auditions have been completed. Results will be posted outside the band room this week. Rehearsals will be every Wednesday and Friday morning from 8:00-8:55 and will begin next week (September 23).   

8th Grade General Music - Continue the study of music by John Williams. Students will have additional assignments related to the music of Mr. Williams. Students should have paper and pencil/pen each day.

Jazz Band Auditions begin this week. Students have signed up for an audition time either in the morning or afternoon each day this week. We will also hear remaining auditions during class as time permits. Please encourage your students to follow thru with their audition!

8th Grade General Music - Continuing our study of the music of John Williams. We will have 2 assignments this week, one on Thursday and one on Friday. Students will need colored pencils on Friday.

8th Grade Band - Fundamentals = Long tones, Hovey Rhythms thru Measure 41, and The Concert Bb, Eb, F, and Ab Scales. Repertoire = Rites of Tamburo and Abaco Overture. NORTH COBB BAND NIGHT PERMISSION FORMS ARE DUE ASAP.

7th grade Band - Fundamentals = Long Tones, Hovey Rhythms thru Measure 48, and the Concert Bb and Eb Scales. Repertoire = Dance Celebration, Sightreading = African Folk Trilogy

6th Grade Band - Fundamentals = Proper Posture, Proper Embouchure, and Tone Production. Repertoire = Red Book lines 1-18. 6th Grade Woodwinds have a playing test over line 16 on Friday, Sept. 11. UNIFORM SHIRT ORDER FORMS ARE SUE BY THIS FRIDAY, 9/11/09.
