I hope you all had a chance to see the first nine week report cards and make some type of reflection over the first nine week grades. We had a chance to celebrate the positive behaviors of our students that were able to stay out of ISS/OSS and had no more than 30 points (or a 90) overall in the first nine weeks. Please be sure to set your goals and stay out of trouble this nine weeks so that we can celebrate with even more in December!

Welcome to the first week of quarter two! Please be sure to sign your child's pink behavior card in the agenda and return it to the homeroom teacher. Report cards will be sent home at the end of the week to be signed.
Math 7 -
Standard: M7A2 - Students will understand and apply linear equations in one variable.
M7A3 - Students will understand relationships between two variables.
Learning Goals:
1. Be able to complete a function chart using substitution and equations.
2. Be able to graph a linear equation in a one-quadrant coordinate plane.
We will introduce linear equations and graphing using the following Powerpoint. Download Graphing Linear Equations. Then, we will take notes and complete the graphing process. See notes: Download Linear Equation Notes There will be a checkpoint on function charts and graphing on Thursday and a quiz over graphing functions on Friday, 10/16.
Have a great week!

Welcome to October! The last week of the first nine weeks of school. Please be aware that all grades are due by Friday, 10/9. Report cards will be coming home on Friday, October 16th. Connection classes will be changing on Monday, 10/12,
Help support Relay for Life by purchasing a Relay For Life "Rock for a Cure" T-shirt. They are $12. The homeroom with the most t-shirt orders will get a donut breakfast.
Math 7 -
Essential Question: What strategies can I use to help me understand and represent real situations using algebraic expressions, equations and graphs?
Learning Goals: Students will be solving two-step equations using prior knowledge of solving one-step equations.
Students will be combining like terms in an algebraic expression to put it into its simplest form.
This week...
Monday - More practice with 2-step equations. Two - step Equations worksheet from Friday is due today! Begin Real World Problems with equations...due tomorrow.
Tuesday - Check Real World Problems worksheet. Begin Study Guide in class...due for a grade tomorrow!
Download Unit 2 study guide 09-10
Wednesday - Check study guide and review for test.
Thursday - Unit 2 test...Graphit puzzle after the test.
Friday - Test corrections complete in class. Complete the combining like terms puzzle.
Math Literacy - We will wrap up our stock market data with a line graph and interpretation. We will also look at paying taxes.
Have a great week!!

Welcome to the last week of September! Only two more weeks of the first nine weeks grading period...time is flying! All grades are due by October 9th. Report cards will be sent home the following week. Because of the devastating flooding and rains last week, we are a bit behind and will need to catch up this week.
Math 7 -
**See standards and learning objectives from last week as they remain in place this week.
We will take the quiz on properties, order of operations and verbal/algebraic expressions on Monday (this was moved from Thursday of last week). Please be sure to study your green review sheet before the quiz Monday. After the quiz, we will begin our study of "combining like terms". We will work on this concept Monday - Wednesday. On Tuesday, we will complete page 9 in the blue math workbook. There will be a quick check point on Wednesday over combining like terms. Then, we will do a practice of one-step equations through a riddle - puzzle. This puzzle will be due on Thursday. On Thursday, we will take notes on two-step equations and do a few practice problems that relate. We will practice more with two-step equations on Friday using a worksheet that will be due on Monday, October 5th (for a check point grade).
Most of what we are working with this week is in chapter 1 of the Math 7 text if you need to look on-line. Please refer to the syllabus for the website and user-name.
The unit 2 test will be Thursday, October 8th. There will be a study guide given on Tuesday (it will be posted on the blog over the October 2nd weekend.
Math Literacy -
We will work with interest rates, credit cards and debt this week.
Have a wonderful week!

Please be sure that you have seen your child's progress reports and pink conduct card in the agenda. Both of these require signatures at the 4 1/2 week mark. If you have any questions, please let us know. The end of this nine weeks is October 9th. It's approaching quickly, so please don't get behind!
Math 7 -
Our standards from the previous week have not changed...see last week's standard.
Learning Objectives:
To be able to write a verbal phrase as an algebraic expression.
To be able to write an algebraic expressions as a verbal phrase.
To be able to identify the 5 basic properties of math.
To be able to solve a problem using the correct order of operations.
To be able to solve a problem using the distributive property and or the substitution property.
We will be wrapping up the verbal to algebraic expressions study as well as our practice on order of operation this week. There will be a checkpoint on Monday on verbal to algebraic expressions (please review page 8 in the blue workbook for help). The River Rapids practice worksheet on order of operations is also due on Monday (this is the sheet we did on Thursday/Friday in class). This will also be a checkpoint grade. We will complete some practice on the distributive and substitution property in class on Tuesday. See attched...Download Distributive_substitution 09_10There will be a fun review game on Wednesday and a quiz on Thursday. The quiz will cover: expressions, order of operations, and properties.
Math Literacy -
We will discuss savings accounts, interest rates, credit card use and debt.
Have a great week!

Welcome to ITBS week! Please get some rest this weekend and be ready for testing. Have your number two (wooden) pencils ready, eat a solid, healthy breakfast and be present each morning ready to test!
Reminder...progress reports will come home on Wednesday, September 16. Please sign the cover sheet and return to the homeroom teacher.
Math 7 -
The standard that we will focus on this week is:
M7A1 a: Translate verbal phrases into algebraic expressions.
Essential Question:
How do I know what words or phrases represent certain algebriac operations in a verbal phrase?
How do I translate an algebraic phrase to a verbal phrase?
We will complete the launch activity on how texting lingo is like algebraic expressions and work on classifying our mathematical operations. We will complete (in class) some hw/practice problems on Tuesday and check on Wednesday. Because of the ITBS testing, there will be no homework (only classwork). No quizzes/tests this week!
Math Literacy -
We will begin the study on interest rates and credit card usage.

Welcome to Labor Day week!I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend. A few reminders/announcements:
1. 7th grade has CoGat and ITBS testing that begins this week. From September 9-18, there will be a testing schedule (shortened classes) day. All testing will take place in homeroom and then students will proceed to lunch and then their classes. YOU MUST HAVE A # 2 WOODEN PENCIL for testing each day.
2. We have had the flu/virus take over Awtrey in the past two weeks. PLEASE keep hands washed, use hand sanitizer and tissues when you sneeze. Let's keep the germs from spreading!!
3. HOMEROOM...I need tissues and hand sanitizer!!! I only received 6 boxes of tissues and 3 pumps of sanitizer at the beginning of the year. I'm already out of tissues! YIKES! If you can donate to my homeroom, please do so. Thank you so much!

We had to postpone the unit 1 test due to unfortunate circumstances Friday. It will be given on Tuesday, 9/8, so be prepared and STUDY your corrected study guide. Please see last post if you need a clean copy of the study guide. Tuesday and Wednesday will be devoted to unit 1 test and corrections. Then, we will introduce unit 2 on patterns and relationships. We will look at verbal to algebraic expressions, order of operations and "buzz words" (these are the basic math operation terms such as difference, sum, product, etc).
Unit 2 Standard (week of 9/8 - 18):
M7A1: Students will represent and evaluate quantities using algebraic expressions.
Essential Question:
What strategies can I use to help me understand and represent real situations using algebraic expressions?
Objectives:
1. Be able to write algebraic expressions as verbal expressions.
2. Be able to classify math terms as addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.
