4th 9 weeks

Welcome_5_4_2

I would like to take this time to welcome all of the students enrolled into this nine weeks Business Education course.  This will be a fun and exciting time for you to learn what Business Education has to offer you.  I ask that you come to class prepared and with an open-mind ready to receive all that the business education course has to offer you.  Students are asked to bring a binder or folder to class with paper, pen/pencil.  As this course is only for one 9 week period, we will be moving full speed ahead. 

Where we are headed:

Week One (March 17 - 21): All grade levels explored keyboarding techniques.  Students were introduced or reintroduced to the keyboard and were guided on how to compose the alphabetic keys on the keyboard by touch.  We will be focusing on the following within each grade level:

6th grade students - Alphabetic Keys

7th grade students - Numberic Keys

8th grade students - Building Skills 

All students are encourage to practice the daily skills taught at home if there is an available computer.

Week Two: (March 24 - 28): We will continue with our keyboarding techinques and basic computer operations. Students will be introduced to timed writings as they are used as assessments for our lessons.

Please ensure that you have signed off of the County's Acceptable Use Policy regarding internet usage.  If this form has not been signed and return to the school, your son/daughter will not be able to complete the daily assignments required for the course.

January 28th - February 8th

Keyboard_busted_md_wht

8th Grade Students - this is week four for us and we are moving along great.  Students are completing their Keyboarding Unit and we are moving into our Presentation Unit.

  • Identify and define presentation features and terminology.
  • Apply design and layout principles to presentations.
  • Use advanced features.
  • Present findings using presentation software. 

The Advanced Level in this grade level will continue working on projects within our Desktop Publishing Unit.

7th Grade Students - will be continue to build upon their Numerical Keyboarding skills.  Timed wiritngs are given weekly and unscheduled.  We will start a unit on the Numeric Keypad this week and will move into our Spreadsheet unit on next week. 

6th Grade Students - will continue building skills within our Alphabetic Keyboarding section.  The emphasis here is for the student to learn how to touch type and to maintain accuracy within their Timed Writings.  Weekly timed writings and Key quizzes are given as a measure of student achievement in the area of keys learned. Students are strongly encouraged to practice their key strokes (for accuracy).

Please keep in mind that we are approaching Progress Report time (2/8/08 - end of 3rd 9 week grading period).  If your son/daughter has enrolled in this class late, has had several absences or is just falling behind a bit, and wishes to make up his/her work.  Please have the student to schedule time with me as our Lab Days are on Tuesday's (8:30 am) for any make-up assignments.  Please email me if you have any questions and/or concerns.

December 3rd - 7th

8th grade  Compscreens

Students will be completing evaluations on Career Choices.  Students will be required to enter High School with an idea of what their "Career Path" will be.  Students will be completing coursework for the next two and a half weeks that will include:

  • Career Assessments
  • Career Choices
  • Resume Building etc.

This will be an exciting time for 8th graders as we will be attending a Career workshop session on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, that will help them to gain more information on many career choices.  I

Note to Parents

If you have not signed your son/daughter's permission form, please do so as soon as possible as Monday, December 10, 2007 is the deadline for all permission forms and payments.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. 

7th grade 

This week we will be completing projects within various Spreadsheet units.  Students will learn how to:

  • Create a Spreadsheet
  • Create a Worksheet
  • Format and Print a Worksheet
  • Apply Formulas

Busi7 We will also complete a unit on "Savings Accounts"  Students will complete exercises that will show them how to:

  • Open a Savings Account
  • Deposit Money into a Savings Account
  • Complete Withdrawal Slips
  • Balance an Account Passbook
  • Plan Spending to Reach Savings Goals
  • How to Build up a Savings

6th  grade

Students have completed the Keyboarding section of the course and we are now entering into a new unit that involves "Presentations."  Students will be explore Microsoft Powerpoint and will learn to:

  • Create a Presentaton
  • Explore Powerpoint Views
  • Apply a Design Template
  • Modify a Slide Master
  • Navigate through Slides

Note to Parents

Any student who has not completed all of his or her assignments may come in on Tuesday mornings at 8:30 am.  Any additional days need to complete assignments will be scheduled on an individual basis. Please contact me if you have any questions.  Please keep in mind that we have less than three weeks left in the nine weeks, students should make every effort to be in class to complete daily class assignments.

November 12th - 16th

8th grade:  Briefcase

This week students will be completing projects using Microsoft Word.  Students will explore ethics in technology.  Students will also learn how to create: 

  • Business Letters,
  • Flyers with Photos,
  • Research Papers with Citations, and
  • Newsletters. 

Students will continue building skills and improving keystrokes in our keyboarding skill building lessons and timed writings.

7th grade: Money13

This week we will start our Money and Banking unit.  This weeks unit deals with - Checking Accounts.  We will cover topics that involve: 

  • Opening a Checking Account
  • Writing Checks
  • Making Deposits to a Checking Account
  • Writing Deposit Slips
  • How to complete a Checkbook Register

Students will also continue learning their numbers and symbols on the keyboard.

We will continue to learn to type new keys within our Alphabetic Keyboarding lessons. Students are focusing on learning how to "touch type."  Please practice the keys that are introduced each day to help you build skill on those keys.

8th grade: This week students will be completing projects using Microsoft Windows.  Students will learn  how to manage files, folders, find files, and view details about them.  Students will continue building skills and improving keystorkes in our keyboarding skill building lessons.

  • Project 1 - Use the Internet Safely
  • Project 2 - Search the Internet Effectively

7th grade: This week we will start our Money and Banking unit.  This weeks unit deals with - The Paycheck.  We will cover topics that involve:  Paycheck Vocabulary, Finding Gross Pay, Adding Deductions, Finding Net Pay, etc.  Students will also continue learning their numbers and symbols on the keyboard. 

  • Paycheck Quiz scheduled for Friday, November 9th

6th grade: We will continue to learn to type new keys within our Alphabetic Keyboarding lessons. Students are focusing on learning how to "touch type."  Please practice the keys that are introduced each day to help you build skill on those keys.
