Week of 5/12 - 16

SCIENCE

Students should be studing throughout the week for the Chapter 21 test on Monday, the Astronomy Post test on Tuesday and the final exam on Thursday.  Books and workbooks will be collected on Monday

Monday:
Power Point with fill in notes: Characteristics of Stars
Collected 21-1 key terms
Homework: Read 21-2 and complete workbook

Tuesday:
Complete power point and notes: Characteristics of Stars
Homework:  Make sure 21-2 is complete and correct - answers will be used for workbook quiz

Wednesday:
Notes on visual organizer: Life Cycle of a Star
Homework: Read 21-3 and complete workbook

Thursday:
Notes on visual organizer: Galaxies and star systems
Homework: Read 21-4 and complete workbook

Friday:
Poster: History of the Universe
Homework: Read 21-5 and complete workbook
                 Study for the =Chapter 21 test and the Astronomy Post-Test

BRING WORKBOOKS AND TEXTBOOK TO CLASS ON MONDAY - BOOKS WILL BE COLLECTED.

LITERACY

Monday - Wednesday:  Students are completing experiments and beginning power points to present their experiment

Thursday - Friday:  Students will be working in their groups on a power point of their experiment.

FRIDAY IS THE AWTREY FIELD DAY - STUDENTS WILL BE OUTSIDE FOR EVENTS ALL DAY.  BRING A CHAIR OR TOWEL TO SIT ON AND MONEY FOR CONSSESSIONS (.50 TO 2.00).  LUNCH WILL BE THE SAME PRICE AND WILL BE SERVED OUTSIDE. STUDENTS MAY BRING THEIR OWN LUNCH OR SNACK.  WEAR SUN SCREEN, HATS AND SUNGLASSES ALLOWED.  NO CAMERAS OR PHONE USAGE.

ALL STUDENTS WHO TOOK THEIR PLANET BOOKS HOME TO WORK ON MUST TURN THEM IN TO ME TOMORROW DURING HOMEROOM.

SCIENCE

Today:  Students took a workbook quiz over 20:2-4 then worked on their planet book.  Some students had time to begin working on key terms for 21-1

Homework:  Complete planet book

LITERACY

Today:  Students were to revise material lists and procedures and write a final copy.  Data Table and Graphs were to be designed.  Groups were given a experimental day: Monday - Wednesday.

Homework: Bring in item for experiments

TOMORROW IS HAT DAY = $1 FOR RELAY FOR LIFE

SCIENCE

Today: Students worked on their planet books today; some finished but, most did not.  We will continue to work on books tomorrow.

Homework:  Be sure workbook sections 2, 3, and 4 in chapter 20 are complete for a workbook quiz tomorrow.

LITERACY

Today:  Students worked in their groups to write and revise material lists and procedures

Homework:  Students need to be bringing in items needed for their experiements

SCIENCE

Students who have a science book checked out to them need to bring books to class tomorrow for a book check.  I am not collecfting books at this time; just doing a check.

Today:  Students completed the visual organizer on the sun.  Students began their Planet books today.  They are gathering information from two internet sites, Nine Planets and planets alive.  The students will be working on this book through Wednesday and will count as a project grade.

Homework:  Read 20-2 The Sun and complete the workbook pages for that section.

LITERACY

Today:  Students worked in their groups to amend their question and hypothesis and to write experimental procedures for their experiment.

Homework:  Students need to be bringing in items needed for their experiments.

Today:  Students watched a power point on the Models of the Solar System and completed a venn diagram.

SCIENCE

Today:  Students took the Chapter 19 test.  All work on the moon phase project was to be completed today and turned in by the end of class.  Students also turned in the Planet Poems they worked on Tuesday.

Homework:  All Planet Poems need to be turned in tomorrow.  Chapter 20 - 1 & 2 will be due on Friday.

LITERACY

Today:  Students completed the experiment procedures we wrote in class: Can boys run faster than girls?  Student established their group they will be working with on their project experiments.

CRCT TESTING CONCLUDED TODAY!!

All students remained in their 1st period class today to write Planet Poems and to watch the I-Max edited version of Apollo 13.

Science Homework: Chapter 19 test on Wednesday - over 19-1 and 19-2: Seasons, moon phases, eclipse.

After the test students will be able to  complete their moon phase project.  All observations sheets should be in class tomorrow!!

Week of 4/20

STUDENTS WILL BE TAKING THE CRCT STARTING ON WEDNESDAY OF THIS WEEK.

DUE TO CRCT TESTING STUDENTS WILL HAVE NO ADDITIONAL HOMEWORK ADDED TO THEIR MOON OBSERVATION ASSIGNMENT.  THE MOON WILL BE RISING VERY LATE THIS WEEK SO THE STUDENTS CAN DO THEIR OBSERVATIONS IN THE MORNING. PROJECT SHEET WILL BE TURNED IN ON MONDAY INSTEAD OF FRIDAY.

SCIENCE

MONDAY- Read 19-2 Moon Phases, complete workbook section.  Define 19-2 key terms

TUESDAY- Collected 19-2 key terms. Review Seasons and add info to visual organizer. Season's model demonstration

WEDNESDAY- Collected 19-2 key terms. CRCT review: weathering and erosion. Check quiz from Friday.

THURSDAY- Phases of the Moon visual organizer

FRIDAY- CRCT review: Star life cycle, H-R Diagram, shape of galaxies

LITERACY

MONDAY- Students read silently and visited the library for book check-out

TUESDAY- Read for 20 minutes, journaled.  Notes on writing a conclusion.

WEDNESDAY- Complete notes on writing a conclusion - papers back

THURSDAY- Review graded papers, Begin class experiement.

FRIDAY- Group work on class experiment.

April 14, 2008

Week of April 14th

I will be out of the classroom this week having surgery.  I should return to school on Monday, April 21st.  Students may e-mail me at patricia.barden@cobbk12.org I will check my e-mail around 6 each evening to answer any questions the students might have.

SCIENCE: Students will be cover ing 19-1 this week - Earth in Space

Homework: 
This week each night students need to make a moon observation and shade the moon on their project sheet.  A parent needs to sign each night to verify the observation was made.
Also, study notes and visual organizer each night to prepare for the quiz on Friday.

Monday - Tests back, Moon Phase Project introduction, Pre-test for Astronomy

Tuesday - Read Days and Years, pg 637 - 639 and take two- column notes.

Wednesday -  They will be reading Seasons on Earth and completing a visual organizer.

Thursday - Students will define terms for 19-1 and complete the workbook section for 19-1

Friday - Students will watch a 20 minute video on Seasons and take a quiz over 19-1

LITERACY

Monday - Students completed an group assessment on writing a material list and procedures for an experiment.

Tuesday - Students Read 20 minutes and journal, Read a hand out on creating data tables, Copy notes on data tables into their notebook, and begin an assignment Creating a Data Table

Wednesday - Students will read an information sheet on creating a bar graph and write notes on graphing in their notebooks.  They will then have time to complete the Creating a Data Table assignment.

Thursday - Students read 20 minutes and journal then, complete an activity - Data Display Graph

Friday - Students will read a handout on creating a line graph then, complete a line graph worksheet.  There will be an extra credit graphing assignment offered to the students - this may be turned in on time.

Homwork: students should be able to complete all work in class however, if an assignment is not completed by Thursday night it should be taken home to finish and turned in on Friday.

SCIENCE

Today:  Students completed a VO on Air Masses then, took notes as they read the section

Homework:  Read 17-1 and complete notes on the chart - VO Air Masses and answer all questions.

LITERACY

Today: Students read and wrote in their journals.  Then, students worked in their groups to grade  questions, hypothesis, variable worksheet.
