HONOR AWARD INVITATION WENT HOME ON THURSDAY - AWARD CEREMONY 5/20 AT 2:45

LOCKER CLEAN OUT WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY; STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE THEIR LOCKERS ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY.  THEY SHOULD NOT BRING BOOKBAGS TO SCHOOL ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY.  THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ANYTHING ON THE BUS FRIDAY.

SCIENCE

Today:  Students watched a video on planets and worked on either their planet packets or an extra credit assignments about comets, asteroids, and meteorites - due Monday

Monday: Set - teams check their planet packets and add information

Tuesday: Set - teams study their planet information in preparation for the competition

Wednesday: Astronomy Post Test

Thursday: Planet competition - the group with the highest points earned in each class set the points for a 100% test grade.

Friday: End of the year activities

DEFICIENCIES WENT HOME TODAY - SHOULD BE SIGNED AND RETURNED BY WEDNESDAY

SCIENCE

Today:  Students continue to work on their planet packets in preparations for the Planet Competition. Chapter 19 Star tests were returned today: we reviewed the test and those receiving at 73 or below must to test correction.

HW:  Test Corrections: Write the question with the answer 3x, due on Wednesday

LITERACY

Today: Students watched the space shuttle launch and viewed a slide show of Hubble Telescope pictures.

HW: Study for the final exam on the scientific method

Due to the weather and the condition of the wet, wet fields field day has been postponed until Wednesday, May 13.

SCIENCE

Today: Students took the Chapter 19 Star test today.  Began working on vocab for chapter 21:  define all words definitions only - good colored pictures will earn extra credit.

 Today:  Students read and journaled.

Today:  Students graded the hw assignment 19-3 study guide.  We watched a video reviewing many of the star concepts we have studied.

HW: Read 19-4 and complete the study guide

Study for the test which will be on Thursday - There will be a study session on Thursday morning.

Today: Do Now Question: Stars begin as ___________ and red giants turn into __________.  Students completed a visual organizer about the lifecycle of stars.

Today: We wrote a conclusion for data on the cereal experiment

Today:  Students took the quiz over 19-2 classification of stars; papers were grades and will be returned tomorrow.  Students watched a power point and took notes on the Life Cycle of Stars.

THE TELLUS MUSEUM WILL BE HOSTING AN ASTRONOMY DAY THIS SATURDAY.  IT WOULD BE A GREAT ACTIVITY FOR STUDENTS AS WE ARE STUDYING STARS AT THIS TIME.  PLEASE CHECK OUT THEIR WEB SITE THROUGH MY LINK ABOVE. 

SCIENCE

Today:  Vocabulary 19-1 and 2 were collected today.  Students reviewed and completed the power point notes on classifying stars.  We watched a video about constellations and star movement.  Students made a star clock.

Today: Students completed the graphing and conclusion section of the Designing an Experiment notes.  They practiced creating a graph.

SCIENCE

Today:  We reviewed information on seasons and added info to the visual organizer Earth-Sun Relationships(seasons). Students received instructions on how to complete their Seasons Study Cube

Requirement for Seasons Study Cube:

* Name of the season with picture
* The name for the first day of each season
* The date the seasons begin
* The length/amount of daylight and night
* State where the sun hits the Earth the most direct without an angle for each season use the degree and the name of that latitude
* Draw a picture showing the Earth with the axis and its tilt to the sun - use something round to trace around for the Earth and the sun

HW: Finish Study Cube

 

LITERACY

Today:  Students completed an activity where they read a question, wrote a hypothesis, and identified variables.  We did one whole group, two small group and one individually.

HW: Study for scientific method quiz if you have not made an A or B
